Metakgp:Policies and guidelines

From Metakgp Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Metakgp wiki policies and guidelines are developed by the community to describe best practices, clarify principles, resolve conflicts, and otherwise further our goal of creating a community wiki for IIT KGP. There is no need to read any policy or guideline pages to start editing.

These guidelines are not hard and fast rules, and constantly evolve. They do however reflect consensus in the community. They should be applied using common sense. Many of our policies are simplified and adapted from Wikipedia.

Neutrality[edit source]

We strive for articles that document and explain the major points of view. We avoid advocacy and we characterize information and issues rather than debate them. In some areas there may be just one well-recognized point of view; in others, we describe multiple points of view, presenting each accurately and in context rather than as "the truth" or "the best view". All articles must strive for verifiable accuracy, citing reliable, authoritative sources, especially when the topic is controversial or is on living persons. Personal opinions belong only on the Talk page.

Server Access[edit source]

We have a server on Digital Ocean which hosts the wiki, it is also used to run other projects like `naarad` and `mfqp-source`, access to server is important to contribute to these projects. To gain access please send your public key anyone with sudo access and they will create an account for you. By convention anyone who ask for access will be given one but sudo access to server is on the discretion of current maintainers and people with sudo access. -- Hargup (talk) 21:16, 9 March 2017 (IST)

Facebook[edit source]

All maintainers of metakgp and maintainers of individual projects should be given access to the Facebook so that they can publicize the projects or make any other relevant announcement. -- Hargup (talk) 21:16, 9 March 2017 (IST)

TorBlock[edit source]

This wiki has the extension TorBlock installed. Read the extension information page to find out the exact restrictions that this extension imposes.

This extension was installed to fight the kind of vandalism carried out on the Wiki by a user behind Tor exit nodes spam-editing wiki pages after 7 pm on October 20th, 2016. This vandalism was later dealt with when user Orkohunter noticed this and posted it on Metakgp Slack. All the spam edits were rolled back.
