Bio-Engineering Summer Training program
Bio-Engineering Summer Training program, also known as BEST or BEST fellowship, is a 8 week research internship program by Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc). The program involves projects of extensive interdisciplinary nature involving collaboration among research centres and engineering departments such Biological Sciences, Chemistry, NMR Research Centre, Molecular Biophysics, Computational and Structural Biology, Mechanical Engineering, and Chemical Engineering.[1]

The program accepted its first batch of fellows in 2015. A total of 10 students were selected, including 2 from IIT Kharagpur. [2]
Application[edit | edit source]
Applications to this program are made online by filling up a form which requires you to answer general questions related to your previous research experience, motivation for research, future outlook, and your curriculum vitae along with preferences for the proposed projects. No recommendation letters of any form were asked.
The notification for the program comes during the early months of spring semester (Jan-Feb) and are notified through Career Development Centre (CDC) or Department of Biotechnology.
Eligibility[edit | edit source]
In 2015, there were no eligibility criteria (department, CGPA etc.,) except that only second and third year students can apply.[1]
Highlights[edit | edit source]
Besides the regular research work that all fellows were expected to perform, the program has following additional highlights:
- A lump sum stipend of ₹ 10,000 (in 2015).
- Four lecture series involving four lectures each across different emerging fields in biology.
- Weekly talks and seminars.
- An official report submission and presentation as a conclusion of work
- Official certificates, farewell, sponsored picnic
However, note that no accommodation was arranged for the students.
