General Championship, Social and Cultural 2014-2015, comprised of a total of 22 events spanning over two semesters. A number of halls participated in these events, and 14 of them eventually made it to the points table with at least one medal to their name. A total of 3370 points were up for grabs, with the maximum score any particular hall could reach, at 1685. Rajendra Prasad Hall of Residence topped the table with a total of 765 points with Azad Hall of Residence at 635 points occupying the second spot. Radha Krishnan Hall of Residence, with a score of 525, was the only other hall with over 500 cumulative points. The four cups, namely, Entertainment Cup, Fine arts Cup, Dramatics Cup and Literary Cup were won by Nehru Hall of Residence (230 points), Patel Hall of Residence (200 points), Radha Krishnan Hall of Residence (335 points) and Rajendra Prasad Hall of Residence (195 points) respectively.

Patel Hall of Residence secured the Fine arts cup for the year 2014-2015 with 200 points. They were followed by Rajendra Prasad Hall of Residence (150 points) and Azad Hall of Residence (95 points).

Rajendra Prasad Hall of Residence finished at the top of the table with 195 points. Trailing them by 10 points, Nehru Hall of Residence secured the second spot, followed by Azad Hall of Residence at 155 points.
Debate[edit | edit source]
This event was judged by two professors among, among whom Prof. M. K. Panigrahi of the Department of Geology and Geophysics was one. The motion for the debate was The media has done more harm than good to the society. The speakers arguing for the motion stressed on how the media today drowns the masses in irrelevance and misinformation. The advent of the 24x7 media bodies have embraced sensationalism to stay ahead of their competitors and this hurts the society very dearly. Major arguments against the motion were that the media, however sensationalist and irritating, serves as a very important check to government power in almost all modern democracies. Also, the cumulative impact the media has had, from the press of the French revolution to social media outrage in the Jasmine revolution is unparalleled.
